Engage…Activate…Liftoff

Engage…Activate…Liftoff

Legend has it that during a visit to the NASA space center in 1962, President Kennedy noticed a janitor working across the 300px-Apollo_15_flagroom.  He interrupted his tour, walked over to the man and said, “Hi, I’m Jack Kennedy. What are you doing?” The janitor responded, “I’m helping put a man on the moon, Mr. President.”

The janitor’s attitude is the epitome of what businesses want from all levels of their staff – employees whose performance reflects the organization’s goals and values – in other words, employee engagement. A company with highly engaged employees sees higher staff retention, fewer absences, is able to offer quality service, and productivity, higher customer satisfaction, increased sales, repeat business, and referrals, which ultimately leads to higher levels of profit.

We can all agree that employee engagement is vital to an organization’s success. What is not as clear, or well understood is what exactly business leaders should and could be doing to support their employees’ performance. From our perspective, the simple response is a three-fold approach: Hope, Direction, and Care. It is the crux of leadership, and it is at the heart of what we do at GRIFF Strategic Leadership.

How engaged are your people, really?

For a self-assessment of your organization based on this approach, how would you answer these questions?

  • Do ALL your employees know what they are trying to accomplish and why?
  • Do our employees take pride in the business and feel hopeful about our future?
  • Does our senior leadership motivate others to work toward the success off the organization?
  • Do our people, at all levels, feel they have access to tools and structures that support their health, energy and ability to grow professionally?

Depending on your answers to the above questions, there may be an opportunity to explore organizational and leadership development initiatives to better provide a foundation for growth in your business, and we invite you to explor our website and contact us to learn more about how we might be of service to your business.
